We got married in Tregenna in March 2008. We had a relatively large wedding, with nearly 150 people attending the ceremony. We were married in the Castle, with the wedding breakfast and the evening “do” there also.
In the run up to the wedding, there was nothing that was too much trouble for the staff at Tregenna. They were friendly, helpful and cheerful. I was very much a bride who needed to be in complete control of what was happening and had to plan every last detail. The staff at Tregenna were completely accomodating.
Our wedding planner, Alex, was a very organised and efficient woman who had a real human touch. She met with us a number of times before the wedding and was willing to really think “outside the box” and go the extra mile to make sure that we were happy. Frankly, in the run up to our wedding, I’m surprised that Tregenna didn’t block our phone number, but ALL the staff there were amazing and seemed to understand how very important the small details were to me.
What I particularly liked about Tregenna was the fact that the staff there told us it how it was. There were times when they could have told us to, for example, go with a particular menu choice because we weren’t sure, but our wedding coordinator helped us weigh up the options and there was never a feeling of pressure from the staff. Throughout the experience, it was very clear that they wanted us to have what we wanted, not what they wanted or was easiest for them.
They provided us with a list of contacts, which was quite useful, but the verbal recommendations were the same from every place that we went to ~ so we had already more or less made up our minds. However, the fact that our photographer and florist were top of their list really helped us too! They have really good relationships with the local professionals, and that really helps too ~ they can work to the strengths and weaknesses of the photographer and florist.
We had one member of the family who has Coeliac disease, meaning that she can not eat anything with wheat or gluten in it. Tregenna were amazingly good about that, both in the sit down meal but also in the buffet, where she was given a plate of food and told which ones she could have and not. I have no doubt that this was a pain to them, but they were very accommodating. They were also very good with allergies and so on, being more than willing to change the menu around for individuals due to dietary requirements.
One frustration of the place was that they do not offer a rehearsal of the big day. We had six children in the bridal party, it would have helped them to have some rehearsal.
I’d be lying if I said nothing went wrong. But when it did, they dealt with it immediately and efficiently. The only example I have of that is that we decided to fold our own napkins and put the rings on them rather than pay for it. We picked them up and when we got home found that we had 150 table cloths, not napkins. I phoned Tregenna and they folded the napkins and placed the rings free of charge, since the mistake was theirs.
It was, without a doubt, worth the money we paid. It was an amazing day and the people there made it so. We got married over Easter weekend, so they were a bit inflexible on some of the guests wanting a room for one night. If I had one suggestion to make it would be to include a room for the groom the night before in the package ~ we objected to paying for it. But without a doubt, it was worth the money we paid, and a real dream location. If we were doing it all again, I’d go there. No doubt at all.
