We held our wedding reception at the Royal Marines Museum in May. We had chosen the venue about 12 months before and at the time met with their in house wedding planner/organiser Zeenat who spent quite a bit of time with us going over what we expected and how the RMM could help. Given the fact that many weddings had been held there over the years and the obvious fact that Zeenat knew exactly what she was doing the whole process went very well. We were given a list of previous caterers and bands that had proved verygood in the past but at no point were we pushed into choosing one of them. For the next year, we were kept constantly updated as to what was going on, what stage the caterers were at, etc. Zeenat liaised with everyone from the band the the best man to the flower people, again making sure that everything was going to plan. She was an absolute godsend and she alone is a reason for going with the RMM.

Onto the venue itself. You cannot fail to be impressed with the building and grounds. A huge high ceilinged reception room, with orante ceiling, steeped in history (neither my wife or I have any connection with the armed forces) provided lots of visual interest and was a great talking point for our guests. It was easily big enough to accommodate our group of 120 but you would not feel lost with a smaller number .There are also lots of places for classic wedding photos to be taken, with a sweeping staircase and cosy corner as well as a large courtyard for the obligatory group photos. There are sveral different rooms, all of which were made available to us. We had originally planned to have our drinks reception in the courtyard but the weather turned out to be a bit wet. Without any fuss, this was easily moved to the upstairs room. There is also a smaller room with a large screen (normally used for showing footage of the Royal Marines band). We were allowed to set this up with bean bags and this gave somewhere for the kids to go and escape to (and some adults) when things got a bit much for them. It is situated right on the seafront with plenty of hotels nearby and this meant that for people travelling from further afield there was lots to do both the day before and the day after the wedding. There is also plenty of car parking space and there was no issue with guests leaving their cars there overnight.

On the day itself, we were fully supported by the RMM staff and again by Zeenat, who was present throughout the day up until after the meal once she was sure everything had gone well.

I cannot recommend this venue enough. We were given full scope to have our day exactly how we wanted it and not once did we feel like we had to compromise on details because of demands from the RMM. You will not regret having your reception here.
