Peak District hotel and restaurant, The Maynard, was refurbished in March 2008 to become one of the best independent hotels in the Peak District. The building dates back over 100 years and during the refurbishment we have tried to respect this heritage whilst at the same time bringing the accommodation up to 21st century contemporary standards.

With panoramic views providing the natural backdrop for your wedding photographs, there can be few places that will help make your big day quite so memorable. Easily accessible from Sheffield and South Yorkshire, Derbyshire, Stockport and Manchester, The Maynard is licensed for civil ceremonies and civil partnerships. Wedding breakfasts of up to 130 people can be accommodated, with evening functions of up to 300 people. The ballroom boasts a traditional wooden sprung floor which is ideal for dancing late into the night.

We got married at The Maynard in September 2007, and were very happy with our choice of venue. As soon as we first visited the hotel, we were impressed by the location, the smart and contemporary decor, the beautiful garden and stunning views over the Derbyshire peaks, and by the friendly and helpful staff. The Maynard was flexible about providing a wedding that suited exactly what we wanted from the day, (in comparison to some of the more prescriptive packages offered by other venues) which meant that we could make the day into the easy, relaxed and happy occasion that we wanted. The wedding coordinator at The Maynard was happy to recommend to us a fantastic photographer, a wonderful florist and a great cake maker, all of whom were local businesses and gave us very high quality services. In the months leading up to the wedding we were able to have regular contact with the venue to ask questions and arrange the details of the day, helping to reassure us that everything would be fantastic!
The wedding day itself ran smoothly and efficiently from start to finish, with everything being well organised and easily accessible for all our guests. The ballroom is a beautiful wood paneled room and was arranged to suit each part of the wedding day, looking equally lovely for the ceremony and the wedding breakfast, and making a great space for the party in the evening. We were blessed with warm and sunny weather all day, which meant we could relax outside with glasses of champagne and really enjoy the lovely garden and stunning scenic views, which make for really beautiful wedding photographs. The atmosphere was relaxed and happy throughout the day, helped along by the friendly and efficient staff (as well as the delicious champagne of course!) All the food and drink was provided by The Maynard, and was truly delicious. Again, the staff were very helpful in offering advice about our menu and drinks choices, and provided us a with a full taster meal the month before the wedding, which only made us more excited about the actual day! There was plenty of space for our guests to relax in both inside and outside the hotel, with large garden areas, a great outdoor terrace, funky bar area with comfy sofas and bright modern decor, as well as quieter lounges for a moment peace and quiet. Perhaps our only criticism was the lack of easy access to some areas of the hotel for elderly or disabled guests, particularly wheelchair users. The overnight accommodation in the hotel is also very comfortable, and meant that our closest friends and family were able to stay at the venue and make a real weekend of it, and we all enjoyed a delicious breakfast together the morning after the wedding to reflect on all those happy memories!
Over a year ago now and those memories of our Maynard wedding remain as fresh and happy as if they were yesterday. The Maynard comes with our highest recommendations for a beautiful, comfortable, stylish, relaxed, delicious and joyous wedding.
