    We held our wedding reception at Sopwell House in September 2008. It was a fantastic day and the staff at Sopwell House were very helpful and professional.

    We were almost certain that we would be holding our reception at Sopwell House from our first visit. We visited around eight other venues but Sopwell House just had something different that we were looking for. We were very impressed with the St Albans suite which was perfect for the size of our wedding (250 people). The key feature for us was that it opened up to the beautiful grounds and had a huge dance floor in the middle of the room. It was perfect. The grounds are very beautiful and make a beautiful backdrop for your wedding photos.

    Another factor that really impressed us with Sopwell House was the fact that they were very accommodating as we were holding an “African style” wedding and they were happy to fulfill all our additional requests without any issues or extra charges. We also requested to design our own menu as we felt that Sopwell House’s set menus would not work well with our “African” guests. The chef and kitchen staff were happy to accommodate the menu we put together which included some oriental and African style dishes. We were impressed that they were willing to take the challenge and try something new rather than refusing as it was something that they were not used to. We were offered menu tastings to a few weeks before our big day to ensure the food tasted exactly how we wanted it to on the day. Unfortunately the chef and kitchen staff did not get the taste right at all on our first tasting which made us a panic a little as there wasn’t much time left. We gave them our feedback and suggested ways on how they could improve. We had our second tasting a week after and surprisingly the food tasted great. They took all our feedback into account and the outcome was great – this gave us more confidence in their abilities.

    On the day, the Sopwell House team worked very well together to help make our day run very smoothly. Even though we were running behind schedule, they still managed to time things accurately. We had a friend to assist Sopwell House staff with the coordination just in case there were any issues with guests. Her feedback on the staff was all positive – she described them as very professional, hardworking and dedicated. For example, when an issue occurred whilst one of the staff were on a lunch break, as soon as she gave him a call he stopped his lunch and came to assist with resolving the issue – this was very impressive.

    The only advise I would give to couples considering to use this venue is to ensure that you meet with your on-the-day coordinator before your big day and run through your requirements and expectations with them. The person that helps you organize your event will not be there on the actual day so the on the day, you’re dealing with someone that you have not built a relationship with. We felt that not all our instructions was communicated to the day-coordinator so we were lucky that we had a friend working with the Sopwell House team otherwise a few things could have gone badly wrong.

    Overall, Sopwell House is a great venue and great customer service is guaranteed. This venue is highly recommended.
