THE PERFECT DAY

Special occasions should be held in special places, and Newick Park is a unique and gracious setting for any occasion. The elegance and style of the house and lawns provide the perfect backdrop to your special day, whilst the warmth and discreet professionalism of our staff ensure that everything goes smoothly from the moment you arrive.

To see just how perfect weddings at Newick Park can be, please visit the Real Life Wedding links below.

Wedding ceremonies can take place both inside the house and outside on the Terrace. We are one of the very few venues in Sussex that can offer you a ceremony in the open air, where you and your partner will stand with the backdrop of our beautiful loggia, overlooking the lake and the South Downs. Your family and friends are seated on the Terrace and lawn, where they can be served Champagne the moment the ceremony is complete. No need to drive from one venue to the next, no worries about parking. Nothing to do but enjoy the day.

Our team of chefs will provide fabulous food for your party and our Head Chef is more than happy to listen to your suggestions to help create a unique occasion for you. You are entirely free to use the florist, photographer and cake maker of your choice, but we are here to help put you in touch with excellent local services if you wish, and our team will be here for every minute of your day to ensure everything is run exactly as you want it to be.

Most of our weddings are booked as exclusive use days, which makes the house feel just like your own home – you and your guests can really relax and enjoy yourselves with no worries about disturbing the neighbours!

Each and every wedding is unique, and we listen very carefully to your wishes in order to give you your perfect day – the day of your dreams.

Horsted Place is the perfect venue for a country house wedding in the Sussex countryside. From the ceremony itself, to fine dining for your guests, your wedding can be as grand or as private as you’ve always dreamed it would be.

We have three areas licensed for marriage ceremonies: the warm and intimate Library can seat up to 50 guests while the larger elegant Terrace Room with French doors on to the formal gardens is the perfect setting for gatherings of up to one hundred. Ceremonies can also take place on the lawn with guests seated in front of the Victorian style summerhouse where the register is signed.

Horsted Place changes with the seasons, making the perfect backdrop for your wedding at any time of the year. In the winter, holly and ivy surround our roaring log fires, and in the summer, our glorious gardens, landscaped by Sir Geoffrey Jellicoe, are alive with colourful and fragrant plants and flowers. Spring brings snowdrops, daffodils and carpets of bluebells, and in the autumn our trees glow with the changing colours of the season.

Our dedicated staff are on hand to discuss your individual requirements and tailor make your wedding. If you are looking for ideas for flowers, and do not have a florist in mind, our in-house florist, Julia Crosthwaite, will be happy to advise. From the moment you place your special day in our care, we will provide the impeccable, friendly service that makes us what we are, and that has seen husbands and wives returning to celebrate their wedding anniversaries year after year.

Hidden away in the Southover area of Lewes, Anne of Cleves House offers couples peace and romance away from the hectic pace of everyday life. Granted to Anne of Cleves by Henry VIII, the building has a long and colourful history. From its early days as lodgings for pilgrims to the present, where it is home to an eclectic local history museum, Anne of Cleves House has been providing a warm welcome to visitors for over six hundred years. A truly unique venue steeped in character and charm, Anne of Cleves invites you to share your day with us and to add your own page to its story.

The East Room with its oak beams, leaded windows and huge medieval fireplace offers the perfect romantic setting for your civil ceremony. Flowers add to the atmosphere in summer and in the winter a log fire burns, lending a warm glow to the room. An audience of up to fifty guests may share in your day, seated in rows facing the top table where couples exchange their vows. With the ceremony over, your party may retire to enjoy a drink or a bite to eat under the shade of the medlar tree. The colourful garden behind the house provides an unforgettable backdrop for your wedding photographs.
Anne of Cleves House can hold small buffet style receptions where food and drink can be served by our in-house staff or outside caterers. These are usually held in the garden but can be moved inside to the East Room if desired. We do not have any catering facilities or a license to sell alcohol which allows couples to arrange their own refreshments and bring it onto our premises.

Buxted Park dates back to the 12th century and has been enjoyed as a seat of power and prestige for many of those 900 years.

The present house was built almost 300 years ago by Thomas Medley, whose family had been keepers of the Privy Purse in the reign of Henry VIII. Clearly even in those days there was money to be made in tax collection…. Thomas Medley himself had been a renowned barrister, however he made a fortune in his own right by using the opportunity of the war against France to introduce the English to port wine and it was this money that built the beautiful house we enjoy today.

Private dining is the perfect solution for creating a personal atmosphere at any gathering. Choose from any of our function suites to create the perfect party or celebration venue. Select from our a la carte menu or custom make your own set menu. Consult our Wine Expert and pick the perfect wines to accompany your meal.
A stately room for grand celebrations

The principal state room of this very grand house, the Ballroom is a wonderfully proportioned space. Light floods in through its five enormous full length sash windows. It abounds with delicate plasterwork, beautiful show doors, deep brocaded curtains, fire places and crystal chandeliers. Even with all this grandeur it retains a wonderful warmth and intimacy, perfect for celebrating any occasion.
Perfect for parties of up to 100 guests.

The church was started in 1195, and is thought to have been built on the location of an earlier wooden Saxon structure. The church was probably controlled by the monks of Battle Abbey, as a licence in 1227 was given by the Abbey to allow Sybille de Dene permission to build a chapel on her estate. The chapel was to be administered by the rector of Waldron.
In 1412 Sir William de Walderne from the local manor became Lord Mayor of London. Then in 1657 Sir Thomas Offley of Possingworth also became Lord Mayor.
The village was visited by Cromwell’s troops in the mid 1600′s and it is said that the troops rolled the font down the hill. This font has been restored to the church and is said to be one of the three great round Saxon fonts in Sussex.
It is believed that the church was adorned with the Pelham buckle a decoration awarded by the local Pelham family from Laughton, but the symbol has been eroded away.
The churchyard contains many memorials to the Fuller Family the iron masters from nearby Heathfield and Brightling. It is said that one of the Vicars of the parish referred whimsically to the churchyard as “Fullers Earth” .
